Abel Estate Wedding Venue Review | Auckland Wedding Photographer

If you want a wedding venue that feels open, romantic and a little more refined, Abel Estate is a beautiful option in Auckland.

The first thing that stands out is the setting — a private lake, landscaped gardens, vines and rolling countryside views. It gives you that peaceful Kumeū wedding feel while still being close enough to Auckland that it’s easy for guests to get to.

For us as photographers and videographers, Abel Estate works especially well because the venue gives you a mix of completely different backgrounds without needing to leave the property. You can have soft lakeside portraits, photos among the vines, garden shots and then move into a clean, modern reception space later in the day.

A Lakeside Wedding Ceremony

One of the biggest features of Abel Estate is the lake. The ceremony terrace sits right beside the water, with the gazebo, gardens and vines creating a really picturesque backdrop for the ceremony. The open setting also gives the whole space a relaxed feeling without being too rustic.

Abel Estate also has covered ceremony options, including the marquee and Winery Room, which is useful if Auckland weather changes unexpectedly.

If you want to see the venue’s latest packages and ceremony options, you can visit the Abel Estate website.

Tui Hills Wedding Photo Locations

Abel Estate has a really good mix of photo locations, particularly if you like elegant outdoor photos.

Some of our favourite areas include:

  • The lakeside
  • The gazebo and ceremony terrace
  • The vines
  • Garden pathways
  • Open lawns
  • Rolling hill views
  • The white deck and lake edge

That’s one of the biggest benefits from our point of view — we can create a varied gallery while keeping the photo session relaxed and efficient.

Getting Ready and Reception Space

Another handy feature of Abel Estate is that there’s a private getting-ready suite on site, which can make the morning of the wedding much easier.

You can get ready at the venue, have your ceremony there, then move straight into photos and the reception without needing to travel between multiple locations.

The main reception gives Abel Estate a more modern feel compared with some of the more traditional West Auckland venues. Large windows bring in plenty of natural light during the day and look out across the surrounding grounds. It works well for dinner, speeches, cake cutting, first dances and the party later in the evening.

Wet Weather Option - The Marquee

The marquee is another useful feature at Abel Estate, especially because it gives couples an all-weather option while still keeping the outdoor atmosphere.

It sits within the grounds and gives you a covered space without losing the feeling of being surrounded by the estate. Auckland weather is unpredictable, so having a venue that still looks good if the ceremony needs to move undercover is always a big plus.

Why We Recommend Abel Estate

Abel Estate is a great fit for couples who want:

  • A lakeside ceremony
  • Vineyard and garden photo locations
  • A modern reception space
  • An on-site getting-ready suite
  • Strong wet-weather options
  • A private venue with one wedding per day
  • Plenty of photo variety without leaving the property

What we like most about Abel Estate weddings is the contrast between the different parts of the venue. You can start with a ceremony beside the lake, head into the vines and gardens for photos, then move into a much more modern reception setting later in the day.
